What are Varicose Veins?
Varicose veins are swollen, twisted veins that have filled with an abnormal collection of blood. Healthy leg veins contain valves that open and close, assisting blood in moving forward towards the heart. With Varicose Veins, the valves do not function properly, allowing blood to remain in the vein hence causing a pooling of blood, leading to symptoms of the following:
- Pain
- Swollen Limbs
- Leg heaviness and fatigue
- Skin changes and skin ulcers
- Unsightly bulges

VNUS Closure Fast is an effective treatment that will relieve the symptoms of varicose veins and prevent progression of unsightly veins even if they are asymptomatic. Using ultrasound, our surgeons position a closure catheter into the affected vein through a small opening in the skin. The tiny catheter, powered by radio-frequency energy, delivers heat to the vein wall. As the thermal energy is delivered, the vein wall shrinks and the vein is sealed closed. Once the diseased vein is closed, blood is re-routed to other healthy veins.
Following the procedure, a simple bandage is placed over the insertion site and an additional compression may be provided to aid healing. The whole procedure is performed under local anaesthesia and patients can resume normal activities within a day with minimal or no scarring, bruising or swelling!
